Last.fm Trends: Most Popular Artists At Timberlake Benefit

By Doug Lazy on August 20, 2010

The line up for the annual [lastfm]Justin Timberlake[/lastfm] and friends benefit concert has been announced, and it’s looking like it’ll be another huge show. [lastfm]Lady Antebellum[/lastfm], [lastfm]Christina Aguilera[/lastfm] and [lastfm]Salt-N-Pepa[/lastfm] are all set to appear, alongside Sean ‘Diddy’ Combs’ new outfit [lastfm]Diddy-Danger Money[/lastfm].

Last.fm Trends had a look at the acts lined up to support the Shriners Hospitals for Children, to see who the most popular among Last.fm listeners really is.

A couple of the acts currently announced haven’t quite gotten enough plays by Last.fm listeners to make the cut. With Diddy-Danger Money a brand new band and [lastfm]FreeSol[/lastfm]’s releases currently pretty limited, they’ve only scored a few thousand plays so far. No doubt that this show could change all that.

Meanwhile the chart shows a pretty clear divide. Acts like Lady Antebellum and Salt-N-Pepa all bubble around a few million plays. which is really impressive up against a lot of artists, but compared to chart heavyweights Aguilera and Timberlake their plays count seems low.

Host Justin Timberlake comes in at second place, with 29,746,081 scrobbles from 1,418,789 listeners. Compared to Aguilera his catalog’s fairly limited, and though his fans have played him repeatedly it doesn’t quite topple the position of his fellow Mouseketeer.

Christina Aguilera is out in the lead with 33,924,576 scrobbles. She’s actually got a few thousand fewer listeners than Timberlake, coming in at 1,414,424 to date, proving that her music has a long-lasting popularity among her fans that’s hard to match.

Head to Last.fm now for a whole world of music recommendation, and to find out how to make the music you play count. Meanwhile you can check out the latest news about the Justin Timberlake & Friends show at his website.
