Remember a couple weeks ago when Snapchat dropped a new update, and everyone has been ranting about how terrible it is since then? Well, Kylie Jenner jumped on the hate train, and it just cost Snapchat over a billion bucks.
Here’s the Tween Kylie sent out a couple days ago:
sooo does anyone else not open Snapchat anymore? Or is it just me… ugh this is so sad.
— Kylie Jenner (@KylieJenner) February 21, 2018
And her second Tweet, about 11 minutes later:
still love you tho snap … my first love

So, backpedaling much? It looks like after that initial Tweet, perhaps she got a note from the Snapchat people and sent that second tweet out as a sort of apology? No matter what though, the damage was done. Snapchat closed the day yesterday on the stock market down about 6%, which translates to about $1.3 billion. That’s a pretty significant loss, no matter how many billions of dollars you have.
It turns out that celebrities have a pretty large influence on products, and we think Snapchat (and other brands) might start to get “approval” from big influencers on updates and features before releasing them, but is that really a feasible option? How do you figure out what celebrities are the biggest influencers of products? See some more details here.
