For the Game of Thrones fans who are heartbroken that there will be no new season this year, recently released news about the show’s return may improve their spirits! According to recent reports, the final season of Thrones is set for a yet-to-be-announced date, sometime in the first half of 2019. According to POPSUGAR, this welcome news to fans was delivered by HBO programming president Casey Bloys this week. At the Television Critics Association press tour, Bloys also stressed that the final six episodes will be “pretty great,” and that fans can expect great moments from characters Jon Snow (Kit Harington), Daenerys Targaryen (Emilia Clarke), and Tyrion Lannister (Peter Dinklage) as well.

The reason for this at least 16-month gap between episodes is explained in an article done by the Hollywood Reporter. They report that production for this new season didn’t begin until October of last year, and that filming may continue all the way through August of this year. Casey Bloys was quoted saying: “Our production people are trying to figure out a timeline for the shoot and how much time the special effects take.  The shooting is complicated enough — on different continents, with all the technical aspects — and the special effects are a whole other production period that we’re trying to figure out…”

While the wait for these final six episodes of the beloved show may be torture for some, some stars of the show are taking to social media to post final, on-set goodbyes pictures that detective fans are poring over for potential clues about the last season.  Although these small pieces aren’t much, they most likely will have to do until the triumphant, final return of Game of Thrones sometime in the first half 2019!
