Disney’s Lilo and Stitch is apparently getting the live-action treatment. Following the string of Disney’s live-action re-imaginings of their classic movies, Lilo and Stitch will join the ranks of Jungle Book, Beauty and the Beast, as well as the upcoming films Lion King and Aladdin.
According to The Hollywood Reporter, Dan Lin and Jonathan Eirich, who are also currently working on the live-action Aladdin film, are set to produce this new project. Disney has also hired Mike Van Waes to draft the script for the movie. Waes has been known for primarily writing horror movie scripts, with past credits including the spin-off of The Conjuring 2, The Crooked Man.
Fans of the original animated film enjoyed the story of the young girl, Lilo, befriending the alien trouble-maker, Stitch. While not a huge box-office success for Disney, Lilo and Stitch‘s themes of family, and the Hawaiian culture and music, appealed to a wide range of audiences.
