Last.fm Trends: The Women Of Country Pop

By Doug Lazy on July 22, 2010

Sheryl Crow‘s Tuesday appearance on Live on Letterman renewed the internet’s love for the prolific singer-songwriter.

After delivering a brilliant performance of new and old songs in the world-renowned Ed Sullivan Theater (see her set on demand here), Crow left her fans wanting more.  Whether you’re a long time fan who loves Crow’s classic hits or a first time listener jamming to her latest single “Summer Day,” Last.fm Trends has more great recommendations for you.

Sarah McLachlan, Jewel, Meredith Brooks, Joan Osborne and Alanis Morissette make up the top five list of favorites for the Sheryl Crow loving set.  This is unsurprising given that all have walked the tightrope between classic country-rock and chart-topping pop for some time now, enjoying both styles – and audiences – throughout their careers.

Surprising choices sit just outside the top five. DIY legend Liz Phair comes in at Number 8, recently making waves after parting with her label and self-releasing new work that seems to have upset many of her long-time fans.

Meanwhile Texas, the Scottish pop-rock band, sits at Number 6. Boasting the powerful vocals of Sharleen Spiteri, the group released a string of hits in the mid ’90s and the more disco-friendly Red Book in 2005.
