Ever feel like your mood as been lifted after singing as loud as you can in the shower or in your car? Scientific studies have shown that’s no coincidence. Singing, especially in groups, has been proven to boost mental health and reduce symptoms of asthma.
Multiple studies show that, as with most other group activities, singing in a choir or with friends fostered social connections and reinforced positive mental health. Some research has shown that group singing can be helpful for those suffering from depression and anxiety.
In a 2014 study, researchers found a correlation between singing and respiratory health. They found that music therapy helped symptoms of asthma, but do mention that the study still requires more research.
