A teacher’s aide working in Brooklyn is in hot water with her school’s principal for doing the unthinkable: yawning.
According to The Shade Room, principal Marie Desforges is facing criticism for her suspension of aide Edsheda Brown.
Brown recently received a five-day suspension without pay for “professional misconduct” while at work. Desforges explained in a disciplinary letter to Brown:
“You yawned loud enough for me to hear you while I was walking down the hallway outside a staff meeting.”
Why that was such a big issue is currently unclear, but Desforges also called out Brown for getting snippy with her over the yawn. After informing Brown of how “inappropriate” the yawn was, Brown said, “What? That is how I yawn.”
Shocking stuff, I know.
The letter also ripped into Edsheda Brown for another horrible action: “hanging out in a teacher’s classroom, conversing and eating lunch.” While the principal claims the aide was interrupting student’s instructional time, teachers are claiming that’s not true at all.

Naturally, many are calling out the principal for her overzealous punishment. One teacher even sent New York City Mayor Bill de Blasio an email asking for help. In it, they said:
“We have put in years of blood, sweat and tears to pull our students up to where they are at this point. Please help us!”
Since starting her tenure at the school, Marie Desforges has issued 30 disciplinary letters.
