In honor of her late brother, Miyagi, Jhene Aiko has launched the WAYS Foundation, which financially helps cancer patients in need of treatment and their families.

The organization is an acronym for “Why Aren’t You Smiling,” which was coined by Aiko’s brother when he was undergoing cancer treatment.

Aiko said in an interview with Billboard:

“This Christmas, I decided to gift my family with the ‘WAYS Foundation,’ something my family and I have had in the works since the passing of my brother. I decided to make a donation on my family’s behalf in which we plan to continue to help people and families affected by cancer.”

She made her first donation on Christmas Eve to a five-year-old leukemia patient, Lily Olive, in Eagle Rock, CA. Aiko donated $15,000 to cover Olive’s medical bills and personally stopped by the house in Eagle Rock to deliver the check and toys for Christmas.
