‘Jack Reacher’ To Cast New Lead Because Tom Cruise Is Too Short

The fans complained and ‘Jack Reacher’ author, Lee Child, listened. He agreed that Tom Cruise is a tad unfit to play the lead and will be replaced.

Lee Child’s popular book series, Jack Reacher, is switching platforms to become a TV series. Tom Cruise won’t be returning as the lead… and it has to do with his size!

One of the biggest complaints that fans of the books had when the 2012 film came out was Cruise’s casting. And, really, their criticism wasn’t unwarranted. Child describes Reacher as a huge guy, and the actor just doesn’t quite match up to the characterization.

“I really enjoyed working with Cruise. He’s a really, really nice guy. We had a lot of fun,” Child told BBC. “But ultimately the readers are right. The size of Reacher is really, really important and it’s a big component of who he is. The idea is that when Reacher walks into a room, you’re all a little nervous just for that first minute. And Cruise, for all his talent, didn’t have that physicality.”

Child also continued to say that he’s through with Jack Reacher movies anyhow. He’s planning to reboot the story as a show, so casting a new actor makes sense. “There won’t be any more movies with Tom Cruise,” he said. “We’re going to take it to Netflix or something like that.”
