Elon Musk, 46, and musician Grimes (real name Claire Elise Boucher), 30, made their debut together at the Met Gala last night, May 7. Turns out the two have been secretly dating for about a month.
Not only that, but it turns out that sliding in the DMs totally works because they started talking through Twitter.
According to Page Six, the conversation sparked because Elon was planning on making a joke about the thought experiment Roko’s Basilisk. It explores the idea of a future driven by AI that punishes those who did not help its existence.
Specifically, he wanted to make a pun on the name with “Rococo Basilisk,” merging the baroque architectural style with the experiment. He found, however, that Grimes had already done so by creating a character with that same name in her music video for “Flesh without Blood.”

An insider said:
“Elon was researching the idea of joking about Rococo Basilisk, and when he saw Grimes had already joked about it, he reached out to her. Grimes said this was the first time in three years that anyone understood the joke. They were both poking fun at AI.”
The couple then started to regularly send messages on Twitter to one another. Elon has long been a vocal fan of Grimes’ music. And Grimes can certainly keep up intellectually with the SpaceX creator. She studied psychology and philosophy in college with minors in Russian and electro-acoustics. She ultimately dropped out to pursue a career in music.
