Congratulations To 2017 Artist Of The Year Ed Sheeran

Ed Sheeran was just named Billboard’s 2017 Artist of the Year, and to be completely honest we couldn’t think of anyone else who deserves the title.

Hey Ed Sheeran, congratulations! Do you read our blogs? We like to think so.

Ed Sheeran was just named at the Artist of the Year for 2017 by Billboard. By the way, he’s the first British guy to do it since 1988 too, when George Michael won the title. Bruno Mars, Drake, Kendrick Lamar, The Weeknd, The Chainsmokers, The Biebs, Future, Shawn Mendes, and new group BTS also made the list of runner-ups. Ed also won the hot-100 “Song of the Year” title with “Shape of You.” See the full list here.

All of the top-10 artists were guys. Billboard did notice that, and did offer a possible explanation. 2017 was “dominated” by rap, which they say is a “male-dominated genre.” They also added that two of the biggest female pop stars “were between albums during most of the chart year.” They’re talking about Taylor Swift and Adele. Adele held the title 2011, 2012, and 2016. Taylor won in 2009 and 2015. All the details and more explanation is available here if you’d like to read more about it.

Congratulations to Ed Sheeran once again, he’s been dominating the charts in basically every category this year, and has clearly earned the title for 2017.
