Ansel Elgort Of ‘Baby Driver’ Cast In New ‘West Side Story’
Ansel Elgort, from ‘Baby Driver’ and ‘Fault in Our Stars’, has reportedly been cast as Tony in the new Steven Spielberg adaptation of ‘West Side Story’.

Ansel Elgort has reportedly been cast as Tony, in the new Steven Spielberg adaptation of West Side Story.
According to Variety, this new adaptation of the 1957 musical is being written by Tony and Pulitzer prize winner, Tony Kushner. In addition to Spielberg, Kevin McCollum and Kristie Macosko Krieger will be producing the Fox film.
Ansel Elgort’s character, Tony, was originally played by Larry Kert in the original 1957 musical, which received six Tony nominations. Richard Beymer then portrayed the character in the 1961 film adaptation, which earned 10 Academy Awards, including best picture and best director for Robert Wise and Jerome Robbins. The plot of West Side Story was inspired by Shakespeare’s Romeo and Juliet, and follows the conflict between two teenage street gangs, the Jets and the Sharks.
Filming for this new adaptation is set to begin next summer.
