The BRIT awards start today at noon, which is 8p in the UK where they’re being held. Ed Sheeran will be performing his new song “Supermarket Flowers.” You can watch the Award Show right from this page too, just below, we’ll embed the video, and they say it will start streaming at about 11:30:

It’s not really a NEW song, it came out on his album “Divide” last year, but it just hasn’t been getting radio play. If you have the album, you know it already. Anyway, that doesn’t change the fact that it’s still a great song, and it’s actually about his grandmother. He says that she fell ill during the recording of the album, and towards the end as they were finishing the album, she unfortunately passed away. Ed was able to write, record, and include the song on the album though, and that’s really kind of beautiful that he was able to give a sort of tribute song to his grandmother on his album.

He says the song is written from the point of view of his own mother. “She was one of the nicest women you’d ever meet and she was my mom’s mom. It was written from my mom’s point of view; it was choosing loads of specific things and then just finishing it as a song,” he said. Here’s a snippet of the lyrics:

So I’ll sing Hallelujah
You were an angel in the shape of my mum
When I fell down you’d be there holding me up
Spread your wings as you go
And when God takes you back we’ll say Hallelujah
You’re home

It really is a beautiful song if you just sit and listen to it. Do that right here, we included the song below:
