Kid Knocks Over Sculpture, Parents Get $132k Bill [VIDEO]
A child knocked over a sculpture valued at about $132,000, and now the parents might have to pay for that sculpture.

THAT was an expensive museum visit. This kid was at a community center in Kansas with his parents. Security camera footage shows a couple kids walking through the area with the exhibit. One child stops to touch it, but the (presumably) father stops him, and ushers him away. Later though, is when the sculpture fell over, and broke.
Earlier in the day you can see in the video the two children walking through with their dad. One of the children reaches up and touches the sculpture. His dad stops him, and gets him away from the statue. Kids reach for things, their parents stop them, not a huge deal, they don’t know better. It’s later in the day though where the “big event” happened. The kids are seen coming around the corner again, one still enthralled by that particular statue. It was that little boy, a 5-year-old, who reached up to hug the statue. The statue was knocked off balance, fell on the boy, then to the ground.
A couple days later, the parents of that boy got a letter in the mail. It was a claim for about $132,000 from the city’s insurance company. The letter cited the parents’ “failure to monitor” their children, called it “neglect,” and said the art piece was damaged beyond repair. The artist, Bill Lyons, says “It’s beyond my capabilities and desires to rebuild it.” The parents of the boy are arguing that the sculpture was not only not roped off, but a danger. The boy’s mother says “It fell on him. It was not secure, it was not safe — at all.” See some more on the story here.
