This is the first Sacramento area county that is strapping these huge fines to businesses that are not enforcing health code laws.

Yolo County has passed an emergency ordinance that allows county code officers the authority to fine businesses up to $10,000 for refusing to comply with state and county safety measures. This includes not requiring patrons to wear masks and allowing indoor dining.

“The recent rapid spike … necessitates an increase in enforcement,” the chair of the county Board of Supervisors, Gary Sandy, said.

The board voted on this unanimously, with a 5-0 vote.

These fines will only go to businesses that are willfully non-compliant with the rules. The county said they will first educate the businesses before fining them.

The fines for individuals range from $50-$250, where as for businesses it could range form $250-$10,000.
