Thanks to our partners at KCRA3:
Parents are in a frenzy about this upcoming school year due to COVID-19 and since there has been a surge in cases, school districts are transitioning into distance learning. Questions have been formed from parents on how to help their child succeed with the new way of learning with virtual classrooms and at home school lessons. “Families are encouraged to reach out to their students’ school districts to to find support and different ways officials can help.”
Lisa Lavasseur, a program specialist in the Elk Grove Unified School District Office of Family & Community Engagement, gave helpful tips to parents to help transition.
- Stay positive! Let your kids know this a new chapter in learning and that their teachers are still around to support them with what they may need.
- Check in with your child daily, asking open-ended questions.
- Get a support group – Elk Grove USD is looking into creating webinars and videos so users can get comfortable with technology.
- If there is a language barrier, ask the school or district if there is anyone that can speak multiple languages and help.
