California law currently prohibits bars and nightclubs from serving alcohol past 2 a.m., but six cities might soon get their hours extended…

According to the Sacramento Bee, State Senator Scott Wiener has introduced a bill that will allow, but not require, six California cities to keep businesses open and serving alcohol until 4 a.m.

The six cities that were proposed to get extended hour are Sacramento, Los Angeles, San Francisco, Oakland, West Hollywood, and Long Beach.

Scott Wiener’s goal with this bill is to boost the state’s economy through it’s nightlife.

If the bill does pass, each of the cities would have to develop and implement a planning process involving law enforcement, public safety plans, and transportation.

While the bill has faced some criticism, it has also received bipartisan support from other lawmakers.
