Last week, [lastfm]Sheryl Crow[/lastfm] amazed the packed crowd at the Ed Sullivan Theater with her cover of [lastfm]The Jackson 5[/lastfm]’s  “I Want You Back.”  The song was a surprise encore after Crow played an extended, uninterrupted 50-minute set during her exclusive Live on Letterman online concert.

And if you didn’t catch the show live while it happened, no need for tears–you can watch it now at your leisure!

Crow opened her set with “Our Love Is Fading,” the lead track on her just-released album 100 Miles From Memphis. She went on to play for almost an hour, mixing classic hits like “A Change Would Do You Good” and “Every Day Is a Winding Road” with brand-new material, including her current single “Summer Day.”

While  the crowd went crazy for her cover of [lastfm]Terence Trent D’Arby[/lastfm]’s “Sign Your Name,” Crow’s very special encore rendition of the Jackson 5’s “I Want You Back” brought down the house.

Crow has a deep connection to the song and and a personal connection to the man himself. The Jackson classic was the very first single Crow purchased as a child, and, as a budding star, she landed a choice gig singing back-up for the Gloved One during his Bad world tour in the late 1980s.

“I Want You Back” is also the bonus track on 100 miles From Memphis (which dropped this past Tuesday). According to Crow, “Michael’s death brought a lot of stuff back for me, so it was nice that we could include this.” Other songs on the album (and performed during her Tuesday webcast) include “Our Love Is Fading,” Peaceful Feeling,” and  “Long Road Home.”
