ZWICKAU, GERMANY - AUGUST 23: A Chihuahua dog waits inside a Trabant 601 car as fans of the East German Trabant car gather for their 7th annual get-together on August 23, 2014 in Zwickau, Germany. Hundreds of Trabant enthusiasts arrived to spend the weekend admiring each others cars, trading stories and enjoying activities. The Trabant, dinky and small by modern standards, was the iconic car produced in former communist East Germany and today has a strong cult following. (Photo by Matthias Rietschel/Getty Images)

The pet parents of a chihuahua are heartbroken after a seagull swooped into their yard and carried off their furbaby. See what experts are saying about the attack…

ST IVES, UNITED KINGDOM - APRIL 14: A seagull squawks in the popular seaside resort of St Ives on April 14, 2016 in Cornwall, England. Due to the pressures that second and holiday homes are having on the town's housing market the council has asked residents to vote in a referendum on May 5 on a new town plan which includes a promise to restrict second home ownership. If the vote is passed on May 5, all new housing developments will only get permission if the homes are to be reserved by people to live in full time. People whose main residence is elsewhere will not be allowed to buy the property. (Photo by Matt Cardy/Getty Images)

Mirror.co.uk says that Gizmo the chihuahua was in the yard with his mom in the UK when a seagull swooped in and grab the dog in its beak. The gull then flew away with the dog and Gizmo hasn’t been seen since. Gizmo’s parents are devastated by what happened.

A seagull expert said that it was probably a ‘black backed’ gull which is typically a larger breed of seagull.

Although seagull attacks on dogs are rare, the expert offered this advice:

“If you know you have gulls nesting on the roof or a neighbour’s roof and you have a really small dog then just keep an eye on it, especially if it is an enclosed space like a garden where a young gull can be backed into a corner.”

Our thoughts and prayers are with Gizmo’s parents. 🙁
