Sacramento’s West Capitol Plaza is about to lose two anchor stores: Safeway and Big Lots.

Fox 40 is reporting that the stores have been at that location for years, with the Safeway in particular opening in 1958.

While Big Lots did not comment on the closure, a representative from Safeway said:

“It’s occasionally necessary to close locations that aren’t meeting company goals.”

Local residents are definitely not happy with the store closings. West Sac native Carol Rohde told Fox 40:

“It’s a huge loss for this area ’cause that leaves only Raley’s and Walmart.”

On the bright side, this will likely mean great deals at both stores while the unload their inventory. Just make sure you visit before their final day at the end of the month.
