A Sacramento-area park has recently been renamed, in honor of Sacramento-actor, LeVar Burton.
According to KCRA 3, the star of “Reading Rainbow” and “Star Trek” appeared for the ceremony at the Meadowview park, on Tuesday, June 11. Named LeVar Burton Park, the park is reportedly only a few blocks from Burton’s childhood home. Burton expressed his appreciation for the honor. “I know my mom, who’s responsible for me having grown up here in Sacramento, would just have loved this.” He went on to add: “It’s so unexpected, and it’s such a high honor.”
Burton has long been a positive force, for empowering young children and helping them to achieve their great potential. Sacramento Mayor, Darrell Steinberg, also appeared for the ceremony, congratulating Burton and his positive impact on the youth. “There are so many kids with love and smarts and untapped potential,” he explained. Burton also shared his hope for what kids would take away from his work. “My message to the kids was, ‘If I can do it, so can you’.”
