It happened yesterday, Red Gerard, full name Redmond, just made history a couple times over at the 2018 Winter Olympics in PyeongChang, South Korea. Let’s break it down:
-He’s the first athlete to win Gold for the US.
-He’s the youngest ever Olympic snowboarding medalist at 17, and second-youngest to ever win a medal at all.
-He started snowboarding at just 2 years old.
-He comes from a big family – he has 4 brothers, 2 sisters, and overall, 18 people from his family came to South Korea to watch him from the snow.
-He’s still not done. He’s got another competition coming up. His Gold was in Slopestyle, and his next competition happens between the 20th and 23rd, that’s in another snowboarding event called “Big Air,” and he could strike Gold in that as well.
