Courtesy PowfuPowfu‘s huge success with the song “deathbed (coffee for your head)” is impressive, considering he’s only 21-years-old, but then again, music’s in his blood: His father is a rock star in his native Canada.

Powfu, born Isaiah Faber, is the son of Dave Faber of the Canadian pop-punk band Faber Drive. The band was discovered by Nickelback‘s Chad Kroeger, who signed them to his label. They hit the top 10 in Canada, and have been nominated for Canada’s highest musical honor, the Juno Award.

While some musicians might caution their kids about getting involved in the music industry because it’s so difficult to make it, Powfu says his dad was the opposite.

“He encouraged me, like, he taught me the drums when I was two and how to play guitar and stuff,” he tells ABC Audio. “So, yeah…he was encouraging and helped me the whole way.”

Powfu still has fond memories of watching his dad in concert, though it wasn’t that experience specifically that convinced him to make music his career.

“I was too young to think that,” he laughs. “It was just cool, though, like seeing him perform. I remember always going to his concerts and, like, having crazy fans ask to get different things signed and stuff. And I always thought that was really cool.”

But now, mom and dad think Powfu is really cool: All his success has really benefited the family.

“Yeah, no, they’re extremely pumped. We were able to just buy a new house as well, so that’s that’s really exciting,” he reveals. “I feel blessed.”
