The Pink Food Trend Has Hit Lettuce Now [PICS]

The latest pink trend to hit Instagram involves salad, and we’re left wondering why there needs to be a pink cobb, really.

We’ve been seeing pink foods lately (referred to as “millennial pink”), like cupcakes, donuts, and drinks (thanks for the Valentine’s drinks, Starbucks), and even non-food things are getting the pink treatment, like hair and outfits. Now the pink trend has hit green. Not money green, but veggies. Pink lettuce is the latest food trend that’s about to explode on Instagram, and we can almost guarantee that you’re going to start seeing pink salads on menus at various restaurants soon, if you haven’t already.

Ok, ok, it’s actually just Radicchio de Vento, nobody seems to be actually coloring lettuce pink, but while it’s been around for quite some time, it’s sort of just exploding in popularity. Primarily from Italy, there are also some spots here in California that grow the reddish-colored food. It’s basically the same thing as a radish – similar in properties anyway. It’s said to have a sort of bitter and spicy taste. If you have no interest in trying it, you’ll be seeing it when you’re browsing Instagram, just like how we saw all those frappuccinos that Starbucks released last year.

Check out some more details on the plants here, where you can find some, and a little more about where it comes from. Personally, I’ll be sticking to my traditional green salads. Lettuce put a stop to pink-trend foods. (har har)
