Amid growing demands to remove Confederate monuments, a petition to have those in Louisiana replaced with statues of Britney Spears is gaining steam online.
The change.org petition, which had amassed over 24,900 towards its goal of 25,000 signatures as of Sunday night, was launched by Kassie Thibodeaux, who’s asking Louisiana Governor John Bel Edwards, Senator Bill Cassidy, Representative Cedric Richmond and the Louisiana State Senate and House to replace the Confederate statues with busts of Britney, who hails from Kentwood, Louisiana.
“Not only has Britney proven her talent, but she’s proven her strength of character by not only overcoming highly publicized mental breakdown, but by continuously working towards improving herself,” Thibodeaux explains. “She’s an inspiration to millions.”
The petition lists some of the “Mood Ring” singer’s long list of contributions towards Louisiana, including money for Hurricane Katrina relief and flood victims.
Historical statues across the country are being toppled in the wake of George Floyd‘s death and the resurgence of the Black Lives Matter movement.
