According to the New York Post, Mark and Christina Rotondo literally sued their son after he refused to move out.
Although that may sound extreme, the Rotondo’s had been trying to get their son to move for eight years. After pleading with him to grow up, cutting him out of their family phone plan, and even barring him from their food, they eventually began sending him legal notices.
The first letter, which lists the date as February 2nd, said:
“Michael, After a discussion with your Mother, we have decided that you must leave this house immediately… You have 14 days to vacate… We will take whatever actions are necessary to enforce this decision.”
After Michael ignored the request, they later sent another letter giving him 30 more days to move. They later sent yet another letter, this one even offering to pay Michael $1,100 toward finding a new place. They also offered to pay for his broken car if it would help him move, and they tried providing advice on finding a job as Michael is unemployed with a “poor work history.” While Michael Rotondo did take the money, he only used it to pay bills.
Finally, with no other alternatives, they took Michael to court… and won! Judge Donald Greenwood agreed with Mark and Christina Rotondo, ensuring that Michael will legally have to move out soon. However, he gets to continue living with his parents until an official eviction date is set.
In a statement to the The Post, Michael Rotondo complained about the ruling, saying:
“It’s really unfair to me and really outrageous. I really don’t want to stay there… I’ve been trying to leave there for a long time. They stopped feeding me, they cut me off the family phone plan.”
In a final twist, it turns out this isn’t the only lawsuit Michael is a part of; he also sued Best Buy in 2017 for $338,500 after they fired him in 2015 for not working Saturdays. That case is still pending.
