Miley Cyrus is mourning the death of her beloved grandmother, whom she affectionately called “Mammie.”
Fans came to know and love Cyrus’ 85-year-old grandmother thanks to her regularly crashing the red carpet or sneaking onto Instagram posts over the years. Cyrus even tapped her in 2016 to guest on The Voice.
Mammie, real name Loretta Finley, was understandably Miley’s self-professed “icon.” Over the weekend, the 27-year-old honored her grandmother through a series of beautiful tributes.
“Even though you are gone… NOTHING has or ever will change. You will FOREVER be my inspiration and fashion icon. Even more than that, the ultimate model of being a true LIGHT in a dark world,” the Hannah Montana alum announced Saturday.
She continued, “You are sunshine. Everyday I wake and see that fiery ball in the sky I will see your face. Even more than that, the ultimate model of being a true LIGHT in a dark world. You are sunshine. Everyday I wake and see that fiery ball in the sky I will see your face.”
Vowing that her family will “ache everyday you are not with us,” Cyrus further honored Mammie by sharing stories that revealed just how close the two were.
One of Cyrus’ many tributes reflected on a hilarious incident with Snoop Dogg, as the singer admitted via a throwback photo of the three posing in the kitchen, “Mammie baking brownies with @snoopdogg ….. she never knew we snuck weed in them…”
In the days leading up to Miley’s heartbreaking announcement, the “Slide Away” artist apologized via Instagram stories for the social media silence.
“I know it feels like I disappeared that last few days…. but someone that means more to me than words can say did the same,” she wrote. “I am completely heart broken.”
