Matthew Perry, best known for his role as Chandler on the hit show Friends, is suffering a severe health crisis.

According to Radar Online, the actor was rushed to a Los Angeles hospital after feeling intense stomach pains. A source close to the star revealed the actor has to undergo an emergency tracheotomy. For those who don’t know, a tracheotomy is a surgical procedure that creates an opening in a person’s throat through which they can breathe.

While it is unclear why Perry needed the surgery, a rep gave a statement saying:

“[Perry] recently underwent surgery in a Los Angeles hospital to repair a gastrointestinal perforation.”

He later transferred to the intensive care unit at a second Los Angeles hospital for more care. The source also gave more news on how the actor is doing now, explaining:

“He was in bad shape, and only recently has shown signs of improvement. But he’s still not well.”

Although it’s unclear what’s causing Perry’s health issues, some are speculating it could stem from his issues with alcohol addiction. Radar reported in August of last year that the former Friends star has been in a downward spiral in recent years. However, the star never confirmed the relapse himself.

Whatever the reason, we wish Matthew Perry the best as he recovers from his surgery.
