A guy tried Jenny’s phone number, you know, from the song, in a lot of different stores for discounts, and it actually worked everywhere.

And it has a lot to do with a popular ’80s song. You know the one – that phone number song, “867-5309.” A guy named George decided to try using the number at a store. Specifically, stores that offer discounts as a part of a “club” membership. “Enter your number on the PIN pad.”

It started with a theory that George had. He wanted to see if he could get discounts at any store he goes to just by using the phone number made famous by Tommy Tutone. He started by going into a CVS Pharmacy to try the number out. He bought a tube of toothpaste, tried the number, and bam, it worked. He tried his local grocery store chain, same result. Then Walgreens, etc. They all worked. He was able to use the phone number at every store he visited.

He also discovered that there were points on the account tied to the phone number, and some of the stores even had cash rewards attached to the number. He called the company headquarters for one of the stores, and proposed an idea. The accounts were clearly fictitious, and he suggested that the companies take the cash rewards, and donate them to charitable causes. After a week with no response, he took matters into his own hands. He bought a bunch of items from the store like toothpaste, deodorant, and other hygiene products. George used the cash rewards, and then donated the items to a homeless shelter.

Who knew that there would be so many accounts out there tied to this phone number. There are probably even more stores where the number would work. George even showed that it works in basically every major area code. Funny, smart, and likely in violation of the stores’ terms and conditions. Insert shrug emoticon here.
