Comedian, Louis C.K., made an appearance at a New York comedy club and performed a short comedy set Sunday night. This was the first live performance for C.K., since his admission to the accusations of sexual misconduct, made by five separate women late last year.

According to the New York Times, Louis C.K. appeared unannounced at the Comedy Cellar in Greenwich Village at about 11 pm that night. The owner of the club, Noam Dworman, reported that the comedian came in dressed in casual clothes, and performed a 15-minute set, with material reminiscent of C.K.’s past performances. “It sounded just like he was trying to work out some new material,” the owner explained, “almost like any time of the last 10 years he would come in at the beginning of a new act.”

Mr. Dworman went on to say that the performance went smoothly, with the audience of about 100 people giving C.K. a standing ovation before he began his surprise set. However, one audience member called the club the next day, and voiced their displeasure of the surprise performance. “He wished he had known in advance, so he could’ve decided whether to have been there or not,” Mr. Dworman said.

Regarding his opinion on choosing to have C.K. give a surprise performance, following the recent revelations the comedians misconduct, Mr. Dworman said: “I understand that some people will be upset with me. I care about my customers very much.” He went on to say, however, that “there can’t be a permanent life sentence on someone who does something wrong.” He concluded with the sentiments that audiences should have the freedom, themselves, to decide what content they choose to watch.
