Lead Singer For ‘The Cars’, Ric Ocasek Has Sadly Passed Away
Ric Ocasek, frontman for the hit band ‘The Cars’ and producer on dozens of albums, has sadly passed away over the weekend, at the age of 75.

The Cars frontman, Ric Ocasek, has sadly passed away over the weekend.
According to Huffington Post, Ocasek passed away in his Manhattan home at the age of 75. Fellow rock musician, Peter Frampton, shared his condolences on social media. “So sad. Such a great writer, singer, player, producer,” he said. “My thoughts are with his family. Rest in peace.”
Ocasek was born in Baltimore in 1944, where he met bass player and future band mate Benjamin Orr after moving to Cleveland for high school. Guitarist Elliot Easton, keyboard player Greg Hawkes, and drummer David Robinson joined soon after, forming the Cars in the mid-1970s. The band saw rapid success, with their debut album reaching Number 18 on the Billboard album charts and putting them on the leading edge of pop rock. After producing several hits over the years, the band was finally inducted into the Rock ‘n’ Roll Hall of Fame in 2018. When The Cars eventually disbanded, Ocasek continued to produce many albums and release his own solo music.
