Last.fm Trends: Glee Cast Back On Set

By Doug Lazy on July 30, 2010

The Glee Cast returned to set this week to begin filming the second season of the hit show, amid a flurry of rumors surrounding the guests they’ve got lined up. After star turns by Olivia Newton-John, Kristin Chenoweth and Neil Patrick Harris (pictured). So far all three have signaled that they’d love to return to the show, but it’s the new names that have taken the headlined, with John Stamos, Javier Bardem and, apparently, Paul McCartney all engaged in dialogue with the show’s producers.

What’s more, you can’t get enough of the show’s tunes. Last.fm Trends took a look at how you’ve responded to the soundtrack’s so far…

When you download Last.fm’s scrobbler you can send little notes to Last.fm that tell them the songs you’re listening to. As well as helping them to help you discover more music it contributes to the most accurate charts about the music you’re really listening to. Last.fm Trends takes a look at that news every weekday. Today we shine a light on the Glee Cast.

With listeners in the tens of thousands, the Glee soundtracks have taken your radios by force in a way that most musicals and TV soundtracks haven’t before. Despite being out only a few short months the most recent release Showstoppers has picked up 167,579 scrobbles among listeners, a number set to reach the heights of its predecessors.

The Power of Madonna, a special EP, has picked up 406,547 scrobbles, despite being a tight 7-track record. With more than double the scrobbles the debut soundtrack made a respectable splash on your playlists last year as the show got underway.

But with 1,495,442 scrobbles to date and 37,299 listeners it’s the second soundtrack, released last Christmas, which has conquered the chart. No doubt there will be more to come as the new season gets underway in the autumn.
