After the Oscar nominations were announced Tuesday morning (Jan. 22), Lady Gaga’s fans waited to hear her reaction to her own nomination.

According to Billboard, Gaga’s fans began to wonder why she hadn’t immediately responded to her nomination for both best actress and best song. Three hours after the announcement, the singer/actress revealed the reason for her delayed celebration: she had slept in and slept through the news!

Gaga shared that she was on a short break from her Las Vegas residency, and that she had chosen Tuesday morning to sleep in. “I’ve been trying to get some sleep because I’m on showbiz time,” she explained. She went on to add, “I woke up around 8:30 and I didn’t know anything about it.”

After waking up, Gaga began to see the wave of congratulation texts and messages. She shared how she called her manager and learning the news, which caused the singer to “burst into tears”. The Oscar nominee then began to respond to the many messages. “The ones that mean the most to me are the ones that come from my family,” said Gaga. “I come from an Italian-immigrant family, and this feels like a very big win for them. This film was a lot of hard work, and I wouldn’t know that hard work if I didn’t know the hard work of the lineage of my family.”

Congratulations to Gaga on her nominations!
