Kelly Clarkson Reveals She Didn’t Want To Win ‘American Idol’
The infamously terrible movie, “From Justin to Kelly,” was so bad, it made Kelly Clarkson want to lose American Idol so she wouldn’t have to make it!

The first season of American Idol launched an unknown Kelly Clarkson into stardom. She’s still one of the most successful winners of the show to this day, selling over 25 million albums worldwide.
However, it turns out she didn’t actually want to win the show…
According to Taste of Country, Kelly Clarkson has opened up about her momentous win 16 years ago.
During an interview with Entertainment Weekly, Clarkson explained exactly why she didn’t want to win, saying:
“I do remember [runner-up] Justin [Guarini] and I having a conversation before and I was like, ‘I don’t want to win, I don’t want to win,’ because we found out we had to do a movie. We just found that out Top 2 and he really wanted to do a movie and I really didn’t want to do it. I was like, ‘It’d be really super cool if I got second and you got first because the winner has to do the movie and the second one doesn’t.’ I won, so I had to do the movie.”
Yes, the infamously terrible film, From Justin to Kelly, was so bad, even Kelly didn’t want to be in it.
However, this isn’t the first time she’s revealed her regrets about the film. In an interview with Howard Stern last year, she confessed just how much she didn’t want to make it. She said:
“I cried so hard because I did not want to do that movie. One, it wasn’t a good movie and two, I never wanted to be an actress. I literally was in Texas, in my apartment, crying in my closet talking to him [Simon Fuller] trying to hide from my family because I felt weak.”
And when it was all over, she didn’t feel any better. She even showed up at the film premiere drunk:
“I literally ended up in a fountain soaked. I was real hammered.”
Well, even if she didn’t want to win at the time, we’re really happy she did!
