Chalk up a gold star next to Kanye’s name – he funded a team of private firefighters to save not only his home, but his neighbors’ homes as well. I didn’t even know private firefighters were a thing. I guess you can pay for anything in Hollywood though.

So the story goes that as the Woolsey Fire was approaching their neighborhood, Kim and Kanye, as well as their neighbors, were told they had to evacuate. Kanye wasn’t about to just give up on everything though, so he found and funded a group of private firefighters. Their home is at the end of their street, and backs up to the field that was burning. If the fire spread to their house, it would have been easier for the fire to jump to the rest of the homes on the street. Kanye knew this, so he and Kim tracked down the private firefighters.

The team got to work by first starting to dig trenches. In doing so, fuel that could have burned (brush, trees, limbs, etc) was removed. Thus, fire couldn’t spread across the ditches since they were essentially a border around the home. Kim and Kanye’s neighbors are crediting and thanking the Wests for saving all their homes. Pretty cool! Unfortunately, a lot of other celebrities and families lost their homes. Included in teh list are Gerard Butler, Liam Hemsworth and Miley Cyrus, Robin Thicke, Kim Basinger, and a whole handful of other celebrities. See more on the West’s trenches and some pictures here.
