During John Mayer’s August 8th concert in Nashville, fans were treated to a surprise new song, co-written and performed with Chris Stapleton.
According to CMT, the two singer-songwriters reportedly began collaborating the day before, the first night of Mayer’s two-day stay in Nashville. After the day of working on the new song, Mayer and Stapleton were ready to share it during the Thursday night concert. The new song is called “I Just Remembered That I Didn’t Care.”
So uhhh @ChrisStapleton & @JohnMayer wrote a song yesterday then played it to a sold out arena tonight. It was kind of awesome and Nashville is still a pretty great place to live. 🤯 pic.twitter.com/2RsHUBI9ae

Mayer shared his excitement over the collaboration on social media. “I’ve done a lot of cool stuff before, but nothing quite like writing a song with the great @chrisstapleton on a Wednesday and playing it live on an arena stage on a Thursday,” he said in an Instagram post. “It’s called ’I Just Remembered That I Didn’t Care,’ and it’s available now somewhere on YouTube. (And if that wasn’t enough, he sat in on “Slow Dancing in a Burning Room.”) Thanks Chris for the idea to write a song to perform together, and for being such a creative powerhouse. The afterglow is bright.”
What do you think about the song, and potential future collabs between the two performers?
