Jacob Tremblay, Awkwafina Rumored For ‘Little Mermaid’ Live Action Film

Jacob Tremblay and Awkwafina are rumored to be in talks about joining the upcoming live-action remake of Disney’s ‘Little Mermaid’.

New reports are surfacing, with Jacob Tremblay and Awkwafina in talks to join the live-action Disney remake of The Little Mermaid.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, this upcoming project is set to be directed by Rob Marshall, and casting rumors are currently swirling around the film. Previous reports have recently popped up, with Melissa McCarthy reported to be in talks to play the sea witch Ursula, the main villain of the story. For Tremblay, rumors speculate that he will play Flounder the fish, best friend of main character Ariel. The character was originally voiced by Jason Marin in the 1989 original animated film. Awkwafina is reportedly in talks to voice the character Scuttle, the seagull friend of Ariel. Buddy Hackett originally voiced the character in the animated movie.

Additional details about the film have stated that original composer, Alan Menken, will be returning to bring back the iconic songs, as well as introduce new material. Lin-Manuel Miranda is also reported to be on board, with Menken composing and co-writing new lyrics with Miranda. Marc Platt will be producing, who helped Marshall produce Mary Poppins Returns.
