So, Fergie sang the National Anthem at the NBA All Star Game this past weekend, and she decided to put a sort of jazzy, sexy kind of spin on the song.
Well, it didn’t go well for her. If you spent any time at all on social media after the game, well, you know why, and you saw pictures, and read comparisons. Many are saying her version rivals the worst performances ever, and Roseanne Barr even says her own version from 1990 was better, and you remember that disaster. Here’s Fergie’s performance:
Honestly, she has a strong voice, but the style in which she sang is what ruined it, in our opinion. She even said after the fact that she was trying to put an artistic spin on her version, and admitted that it didn’t really work out as well as she intended. “I’m a risk taker artistically, but clearly this rendition didn’t strike the intended tone. I love this country and honestly tried my best.” We get it, Fergie, we understand what you mean. Sometimes a new spin just doesn’t go as well as we hope.
Charles Barkley had this to say after her performance, while Shaq stood up to give her some credit:
“Damn right it was different. I needed a cigarette after that” – Charles Barkley on Fergie’s national anthem 😂😂😂

So, yeah. That’s all we’ve got.
Actually, no, there’s more. Here’s a vocal coach’s break-down of Fergie’s performance with reasons as to why it was bad:
