Helplines Ready To Counsel People Affected By Mass Shootings

People seeking emotional help in the aftermath of the Gilroy, CA, Dayton, Ohio, and El Paso, Texas mass shootings have a helpline to call get immediate crisis counseling.

The helpline is sponsored by the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration. Helpline specialists are trained to assist callers who is dealing with the traumatic effects of a natural or human-caused disaster according to SAMHSA. The Disaster Distress Helpline is available 24-hour-a-day, seven-day-a-week to assist anyone who needs help coping with the mental or emotional effects of the mass shootings.

The helpline immediately connects callers to trained and caring professionals from the closest crisis counseling center in the nationwide network of centers. The helpline staff will provide confidential counseling, referrals, other needed support services, and can be reached at 1-800-985-5990 or text ‘talkwithus’ to 66746 to begin the process of recovery.
