Halsey, a tireless advocate for the Black Lives Matter movement, is opening her purse to support black creators with a new initiative.
Called the Black Creators Funding Initiative, the “Graveyard” singer explained on Thursday what her new outreach effort is intended for, writing, “I am launching this to give funds, resources, and a platform to black creators.” She also encouraged her 20.1 million followers to spread the word by tagging those who could benefit from the program.
Halsey also included an infographic of the effort, which details the fund’s main objective, which is to “help black creators and amplify their art, voice and perspective.”
“If you’re an artist, poet, graphic designer, writer, film maker, music producer, journalist, make up artist, or creator of any kind, we want to see your work and want to help achieve your goals,” The Grammy nominee encouraged.
In addition, the 25-year-old singer confirmed that her new program will not rely on donations to operate, asserting, “This ongoing initiative will be entirely funded by the Halsey team.”
Beyond distributing funds, Halsey added that she will use her social media accounts to help promote black creators “to help launch their platforms and we will help provide resources, information, and points of contact. For as many people as we can.”
Halsey encourages all black creators to apply, adding that “we will be announcing the first gifting recipients on June 18th.” Those interested can apply by using the #BLACKCREATORSFUND hashtag on Twitter or Instagram.
The singer’s team is already going through submissions, with Halsey raving, “This is the most mind blowing flow of creativity I have ever seen. Magic.”
The “Eastside” singer intends to keep her program running as long as it’s needed, concluding with “We hope to continue this initiative throughout the years to come.”
