It couldn’t be easier to claim your free ice cream. All you have to do is visit a participating store between 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. and you’re all set! Additionally, if you post a photo using the hashtag #HDFreeConeDay, you could be featured on Häagen-Dazs’ official Instagram page.
So why is the company giving away free cones today?
Häagen-Dazs has long aligned itself with efforts to protect the vanishing honey bee population. The company even started the “Häagen-Dazs Loves Honey Bees Initiative,” reports HelloGiggles. Through the initiative, the company donated $1 million towards honey bee research and established more than 6 miles of habitat for bees.

Free Cone Day began as a way to spread awareness about honey bees. Häagen-Dazs also encourages donations to the Xerces Society, a nonprofit working to protect insects like honey bees and butterflies.
