With plastic straws being phased out in McDonalds and Starbucks to be more environmentally friendly, customers have been left wondering what straws they’ll be able to sip their beverages through. Through the power of social media, user posts have gone viral suggesting the return and use of cereal straws for drinking. Kellogg’s and Froot Loops, whose own cereal straws were discontinued in 2009, heard the call and has come to the rescue.

According to delish, an online petition to bring back those particular cereal straws was started by a Froot Loops super-fan named Hannah Wade, and has reached nearly 13,000 signatures. Through her Change.org page, Wade states: “People around the world seem to be nostalgic for this delicious treat from our childhood. Bringing back Froot Loops Cereal Straws would bring joy to my generation and generations to come.”

Kellogg’s has responded to this online craze by announcing that they will be introducing two modern spins on the original edible straws for people to try. Unfortunately, the catch is that these straws will only be available for a limited time at their Cafe in NYC on August 6. This specialty shop in Manhattan offers a full cereal bar, with choices such as Froot Loops, Frosted Flakes and Rice Krispies. Alongside the new cereal straws, the cafe also offers toppings like sprinkles, marshmallows and caramel sauce for customers to decorate their cereal creations.
