Fired Waiter Claims He’s Not ‘Disrespectful,’ Just French
A waiter who was fired recently for being disrespectful in Vancouver, British Columbia filed a complaint against his former employer saying he’s not rude, just French.

A waiter fired for his “aggressive, rude and disrespectful” behavior says he’s just being French.
Guillaume Rey filed a complaint with British Columbia’s Human Rights Tribunal against his former employer. He says that his firing is “discrimination against my culture.”
The restaurant, located in Vancouver, fired Guillaume due to his continued rudeness towards guests. The company gave him performance reviews, asking him to change his demeanor, reports the Guardian. Guillaume, however, says that French culture just “tends to be more direct and expressive.”
The restaurant tried to dismiss the complaint, but the application was denied by tribunal member Devyn Cousineau. A court hearing will take place. Devyn wrote in a statement:
“Mr. Rey will have to explain what it is about his French heritage that would result in behaviour that people misinterpret as a violation of workplace standards of acceptable conduct.”
