A new strange and potentially dangerous trend, sunscreen pills, has hit the market. The FDA sent cease and desist letters to the companies producing the pills.

We all know how annoying it can be to reapply sunscreen every few hours, but it’s still the best option. Certainly better than sunscreen pills, according to Dr. Scott Gottlieb from the FDA. He sent a warning to consumers stressing:

“There’s no pill or capsule that can protect your skin from the sun.”

The FDA has sent out letters to Advanced Skin Brightening Formula, Sunsafe Rx, Solaricare, and Sunergetic. These companies falsely claim that their products will protect you from the sun. Gottlieb continued to say that these companies are “putting people’s health at risk by giving consumers a false sense of security that a dietary supplement could prevent sunburn, reduce early skin aging caused by the sun, or protect from the risks of skin cancer.”

Like HelloGiggles reports, stick with over the counter sunscreens at the drugstore. Those are FDA approved and will protect your skin from damaging rays.
