According to a new press release from the FDA, they are warning people who are considering a new tattoo, tattoo artists and retailers of tattoo ink that the six types of tattoo ink listed below are being recalled because “they are contaminated with microorganisms”.
Which Tattoo Inks Are Affected?
- Scalpaink SC, Scalpaink PA, and Scalpaink AL basic black tattoo inks manufactured by Scalp Aesthetics (all lots)
- Dynamic Color – Black tattoo ink manufactured by Dynamic Color Inc (lots 12024090 and 12026090)
- Solid Ink-Diablo (red) tattoo ink manufactured by Color Art Inc. (dba Solid Ink) (dba Antone’s Ink) (lot 10.19.18)
The FDA says that the contaminated inks “can cause infections and lead to serious health injuries when injected into the skin during a tattooing procedure, since there is an increased risk of infection any time the skin barrier is broken.”
What Should YOU Do If You’ve Recently Had A Tattoo?
The FDA suggests that you should contact your tattoo artist to see if one of the above inks have been used in your tattoo. They also say that if you are experiencing “symptoms of infection or an injury after administration of a tattoo” that you should “consult their healthcare professional and inform their tattoo artist.”
If You’re Considering Getting A New Tattoo
The FDA says that you should ask the tattoo artist or studio about the tattoo inks they use and to avoid the affected tattoo inks.
