90’s fans, rejoice! Another nostalgic obsession you may have is coming back, in the form of everyone’s favorite citrus-flavored soda: Surge. According to delish, the soda will be returning to Coke Freestyle Machines through an exclusive deal with Burger King. Back in 2015, Surge had previously been available for a limited time in slushie form at Burger King, and other frozen drink forms at Valero’s and Cinemark theaters in the following years. However, this marks the first time in years that the soda will be available in soda machines.
Surge was originally developed as Coca-Cola’s answer to Pepsi’s Mountain Dew back in 1997. Although the soda had its faithful drinkers, Surge was eventually discontinued back in 2002. The nostalgia for the citrusy drink has remained strong, however, and has led to Surge reappearing sporadically over the years. In 2014, Amazon sold exclusive 12-packs for prime members, and certain convenient stores on the east coast sold limited cans of the soda in 2015.
According to the official Surge twitter account, the soft drink will be available at Burger Kings that feature Coca-Cola Freestyle machines. Fans have until February 2019 to grab their soda cups and skate on over to a participating BK to grab a refreshing glass of citrus-flavored nostalgia.
