A family ordered some things from Amazon, and when their package came in, there was a bonus item in the box – a live snake.

And yes, the order was from Amazon.com, not the Amazon rainforest, by the way. This couple ordered some storage containers, and found a snake in the box when the order arrived to their home.

The couple first noticed that there was a small hole in the bottom of the box when it arrive. But honestly, the way package handlers beat packages up, we’re more surprised if something arrives undamaged. Anyway, not thinking anything about it, they opened the box to get their new storage bins. That’s when the snake “fell out.” It must have been alive, because they called animal control to come get the snake. They showed up, and were able to capture the snake, later releasing it in a nearby river.

The family says that Amazon did refund their $15 cost on the bins. But the family is also insisting that Amazon give them a check for the $400 animal control fee they had to pay. That hasn’t come in yet, but Amazon says they’re “in the process of filing that claim.” The snake, by the way, was a young banded water snake. Non-venomous, but still, if this snake could have gotten in, any other one probably could have as well. See some more info on the family and their new snake here.
