It turns out that those hand dryers in public bathrooms suck up feces particles and bacteria… then spray them out onto your hands.
A report published in Applied and Environmental Microbiology said that the air from those dryers contain heavy amounts of bacteria. Much more than what’s in normal bathroom air. In fact, 60 different bacterial colonies can be blown out in 30 seconds of hand drying.
The study examined 36 bathrooms at the University of Connecticut School of Medicine during a single drying session. Several samples contained staphylococcus aureus, which is a bacteria commonly found in bodies. It is also linked to serious infections.

Peter Setlow, the study’s author, told Yahoo:
“Bacteria in bathrooms will come from feces, which can be aerosolized a bit when toilets, especially lidless toilets, are flushed.”
In conclusion, researchers recommend always closing the toilet lid before flushing.
