How about the American Music Awards 2018 last night?! Did you watch? So many moments are worth talking about but Taylor Swift and Aretha Franklin’s all-star tribute were the main highlights of the evening. Taylor Swift kicked off the show with a performance of her new single, “I Did Something Bad” with her giant snake from her Reputation World Tour. Later that night, she became the most-awarded female artist ever by picking up four awards, including Artist of the Year, according to Hollywood Reporter. During her speech, she made political statements making headlines this morning. She said, quote, “This award and every single award given out tonight were voted on by the people, and you know what else is voted on by the people: “The midterm elections on November 6. Get out and vote.”
Not to mention, this was her first awards show performance in three years. While singing “I Did Something Bad,” she got bleeped out for a curse word, which is a first for her in a TV performance.
Another highlight of the show was the tribute paid to the late Aretha Franklin, who died August 16 after a long battle with pancreatic cancer at 76 years-old. A gospel choir was brought out with an all-star tribute to Aretha Franklin was led by Gladys Knight, Mary Mary, CeCe Winans, Donnie McClurkin, and Ledisi. Watch how Aretha Franklin’s granddaughter was memorized watching the tribute below.
