11 years after its release, Miley Cyrus’ “Party in the USA” reenters the music charts
Miley Cyrus‘ catchy 2009 single “Party in the U.S.A.” is enjoying a renaissance following the recent presidential election. For the first time in over a decade, the song has reemerged on several charts with more expected this week.
Supporters of President-elect Joe Biden have been filmed singing the 11-year-old hit while celebrating his election win over the weekend.
Variety is reporting that “Party in the U.S.A.” has reentered the iTunes Top 200 song chart, which tracks the most downloaded songs on the iTunes store. The song is currently in the top 50, cracking 49th place as of late Sunday.
In addition, Page Six reports that “Party in the U.S.A” is enjoying a boost in streams, with the single jumping to 93 on the US Spotify streaming chart. The song racked up an additional 313,000 listens as of Sunday.
The song, when it was first released in 2009, peaked at number two on the Billboard Hot 100. It is still too early to learn if the song has reappeared on that particular chart.
Miley herself also commented on her song’s new significance after multiple news outlets confirmed that Biden claimed victory in Pennsylvania, boosting him well over the needed 270 electoral votes to win the hard fought election.
“Now THIS is a PARTY IN THE USA,” the singer celebrated on Twitter Saturday while also sharing a video of Biden, Senator Kamala Harris and, by extension, President Donald Trump dancing to her single.
In addition to Cyrus’ 2009 song reappearing on the iTunes chart, her remix of “Midnight Sky” that features vocals from Fleetwood Mac frontwoman Stevie Nicks bowed in the top 20 — currently resting at number 13 on the iTunes 200.
